In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was among the prestigious tribute items and became known as one of the "Three Treasures of Guizhou," alongside Moutai liquor and Yuping bamboo flutes. Combining aesthetic, practical, and artistic value, its production technique, the Yi Lacquerware Decoration Technique, was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.

In November this year, internet celebrity Li Ziqi made her long-awaited return after a three-year hiatus. In her first video, she showcased the process of refurbishing old wardrobe doors using the Yi lacquerware decoration technique. This brought renewed attention to the time-honored craft, reviving its place in the public eye.

從生漆收割、胎坯制作、工藝裝飾到漆器形成，大方漆器的制作，工序繁雜，要靠長(zhǎng)期從事該技藝的師傅憑經(jīng)驗(yàn)純手工完成?，F(xiàn)年60余歲的高光友是“彝族漆器髹飾技藝”省級(jí)代表性傳承人，他自1985年開(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí)制作漆器。30余年來(lái)，他潛心鉆研，積極推動(dòng)該技藝的傳承與發(fā)展。在他的堅(jiān)持下，大方漆器實(shí)現(xiàn)了從高端工藝品到大眾文化創(chuàng)意產(chǎn)品的轉(zhuǎn)型。

From harvesting raw lacquer and making the base structure to applying decorations and completing the final product, crafting Dafang lacquerware involves an intricate series of steps. The process is entirely handcrafted, relying on the expertise and experience of artisans. Gao Guangyou, now in his 60s, began learning the craft in 1985. Over the past three decades, he has immersed himself in refining the technique and promoting its preservation and development. Under his leadership, Dafang lacquerware has transitioned from an exclusive luxury item to an accessible cultural and creative product.
